But\n2 it is appropriate for this Court, in the face of genuine\n3 expressions of remorse and acceptance of responsibility, to\n4 decrease punishment because that's part of the message that's\n5 being sent by the law. It's appropriate to note and to take\n6 into account a lack of acceptance of responsibility, a lack of\n7 expression of remorse as to her own conduct. Today's sentence\n8 will attempt to acknowledge the harm that Ms. Maxwell caused\n9 and it will strongly and unequivocally condemn her criminal\n10 conduct.\n11 I do conclude, consistent with the Probation\n12 Department recommendation, that a sentence of 240 months, which\n13 is slightly above the guideline range that I found, is both\n14 sufficient and necessary -- and no greater than necessary to\n15 meet the purposes of punishment that I have described.\n16 I will now formally state the sentence I intend to\n17 impose. I will ask Ms. Maxwell and her counsel to please rise.\n18 Ms. Maxwell, it is the judgment of this Court that you\n19 be sentenced to a period of 240 months, 20 years, to be\n20 followed by a period of five years' supervised release.\n21 You may be seated.\n22 To be precise, I am sentencing Ms. Maxwell to 60\n23 months on Count Three, 120 months on Count Four, and 240 months\n24 on Count Six, all to run concurrently, for a total of 240\n25 months' imprisonment.
