And I, as an officer of the court, and as a believer in the system, have tried to encourage the victims to have confidence in the system that should provide them access to justice that should help them to assert and vindicate their rights in a court of law. It has been increasingly difficult in this case for me to say to my clients that they should have confidence in the system of justice given what has occurred in this case, People v. Jeffrey Epstein.\n7\n8\n9\n10\n11\n12\n13\n14\n15\n16 Having said that, I am encouraged by the fact that this court, essentially, in an unprecedented situation where the defendant is deceased, is still affording these victims an opportunity to be heard. So we thank you for that.
