So to the extent that more of my patients are\n2 women than men, certainly that's a vulnerability.\n3 But also, because, especially now, I'm working with adults, I'm working with people who have been repeatedly\n4 victimized at various points in time in their lives. And you\n5 can really clearly see the pattern, and it's something I often\n6 have to address with patients because they inquire about it,\n7 they don't understand. You know, why is it that this has\n8 happened to me so many times. And, again, we know from the\n9 revictimization literature that when someone is abused, they\n10 are at higher risk of being abused at later points in time.\n11 Also, you know, sometimes the clinical literature\n12 individuals will talk about the specific issues in their family\n13 that perhaps increase their vulnerability: They were always\n14 alone. They, you know, their mom was sick and this person had\n15 lots of opportunity to kind of befriend the family and, you\n16 know, therefore had greater access as a result of that\n17 vulnerability, or perhaps they were desperate for attention,\n18 care, love, and concern from another person because those are\n19 common childhood needs and maybe they weren't getting that at\n20 home.\n21 So those are all the kinds of things that would come\n22 up in, and have come up in, my over 30 years of treating\n23 patients.\n24 Q.
