The D.E.'S Office will facilitate these arrangements, and I am grateful in advance to them as well as for the thought that they've already put into this process. That's how we'll work. There are some deviations from my normal practices certainly in light of the many considerations in this case. The COVID-19 protocols make spacing tricky. The procedures I've described are the best way to screen the necessary number of jurors for this type of high-profile case in an efficient manner considering the space and time limitations that we'll be working with. We're also all aware that there's been intense media and public interest in this case, as the defendant's motion highlights, and I expect certainly will continue. Moreover, this trial is dealing with sensitive and controversial issues; namely, the alleged sexual assault and sex trafficking of minors. To impanel a jury that can fairly and impartially consider these charges, I'll have to ask personal questions about the prospective jurors' experience with these issues. I've carefully taken all of these factors into account.
